Rev. Barrett Abernethy is a native Texan, and holds degrees from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX and the University of Alabama. He attended seminary at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, TX, and graduated with an MDiv in 2013. Barrett has a passion for ministry. He particularly enjoys worship formation, community building, and helping people sense the presence of God in their daily lives. In his spare time he likes visiting historic sites, reading, and attending Alabama football games. Barrett is married to Braegan, a librarian at the University of West Alabama, and they reside in Livingston with their daughter Evelyn and two pets.
Janice Greenwood joined our staff in 2015 after completing a 30 year career in the Army Reserve. She obtained her accounting degree from the University of West Alabama. She and husband, Jim, returned to Sumter county after both retired from the military. They have 5 sons and 10 grandchildren who live in Mobile, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, and Germany.
We welcomed Dr. Christopher C. Jenkins to our staff in July. He obtained a BS in Education from Mississippi College, an ME from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Music degree in organ and a Doctor of Musical Arts from New Orleans Seminary. He has served churches in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama for a total of 45 years. Dr. Jenkins has also taught elementary school, high school, and college. He taught at New Orleans Seminary, the University of Mobile, Meridian Community College, and East Central Community college where he taught vocal/choral music and retired as Dean of e-Learning in 2014. He has one son, Brady, and three grandchildren who reside in Nashville, TN.
